Drum roll! The 5th edition of the AppsAfrica Innovation Awards has birthed new winners. Fourteen products won across four African countries from over 400 entries received from 52 countries in Africa. Flutterwave, Carbon, 54gene and others were the recipients of this award.
Guess what? Flutterwave and Helium Health both Nigerian companies have made CNBC’s 100 of the world’s most promising start-ups to watch in 2019 list. The list was released on the 12th of November 2019.
Have you heard? The Kenyan government has signed a new data protection law. The new law aims to set restrictions on data handling and sharing by government and corporations. Violators of the law are liable to facing two-year prison sentences or fines of up to $29,000.
Also, PalmPay – a fintech platform has launched in Nigeria after securing $40 million seed-round from Chinese mobile-phone maker, Transsion. The startup plans to become Africa’s major financial services platform.
Finally, popular ride-hailing company Bolt has launched a €10 million Environmental Impact Fund. The fund is aimed at initiatives that provide global social and environmental benefits. The Environmental Impact Fund aligns with Bolt’s ‘Green Plan’ strategy.
