SoGal is an LA-based Venture Capitalist firm that was founded in 2016 by Pocket Sun and Elizabeth Galbut. The platform provides resources, education, and community for over 100,000 people. They started as a student group at the University of Southern California (USC) and over time, expanded to over 40 cities within five continents. SoGal creates an avenue for entrepreneurs to connect and build a support system amongst one another.
The venture capital firm recently expanded to Johannesburg South Africa in a bid to support South Africa female entrepreneurs. They intend to do this by connecting them to one another, global entrepreneurs, investors, and resources. Shanèy Vijendranath, the co-founder of MomSays will lead the Johannesburg chapter of SoGal.
Shanèy contacted SoGal after discovering there weren’t enough networking opportunities for female entrepreneurs in South Africa. Discovering that SoGal can help them thrive, she contacted them and after an interview session, she was appointed chapter lead for Johannesburg.
SoGal Johannesburg intends to focus on building a lasting solution to the biggest challenges that South African entrepreneurs face. They have their sights set on providing educational materials and mentorship needed to connect SA entrepreneurs with investors all over the world. SoGal is also looking to give these entrepreneurs access to webinars, live streams, and global pitch competitions. All interested entrepreneurs can join the community here
