Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation calls on Small-Scale Producers for Smart Farming Innovations Challenge

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation challenge seek smart farming solutions that exploit digital technology advances.

But with the potential to have a positive effect on small-scale entrepreneurs.

The solution must be provided through bundled farmer services.

However, the services must be made accessible through flexible digital and data platforms.

Applicant solutions should resolve the challenges facing small-scale crop and livestock producer such as:

Support for farm decision-making
Agricultural consulting services
Financing
Insurance
Market access
Input supply

This challenge is open to African and Asian agricultural entrepreneurs.

For Africans, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ghana, Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique and Nigeria are the countries involved.

Two awards are eligible for the Grand Global challenge:

Seed Grants (USD 250,000) and Scale-Up Grants (1.5M USD)

Interested applicants can apply via Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation website.
